Nissan Slyphy launching this month
March 10 , 2014
Nissan is a popular name throughout the world because the carmaker is known to make everything from cheap-to-own, run-of-the-mill commuter cars to high performance sports cars. While entering India, Nissan decided to follow a top-down approach - meaning that they launched some high-end cars first followed by the mass market products. The Teana and the X-trail did the work of establishing the brand, while the Micra and the Sunny came in to reap the results. However, in the past few years of operation Nissan has missed out on a very important segment - the executive sedan. Their portfolio has a big gap between the Sunny and the Teana, but it will soon be filled up by a car called the Sylphy.
The Sylphy made its debut recently at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show in China. The Chinese market gets the Sylphy with 1.6-litre and 1.8-litre petrol engines only. In India, we expect the Sylphy to be powered by the same 1.6-litre petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel engines that power the Renault Fluence. Both these engines are compatible with the Sylphy because the car is based on the same scalable V-platform that underpins the Micra and the Sunny. The Sylphy will not only be fuel efficient and reliable, it will also flaunt a premium styling, an aerodynamic shape and LED daytime running lights which are a popular design trait in India.
As we mentioned, the Sylphy will be slotted between the Sunny and the Teana and will be priced in the Rs 12 - 20 lakh range. It will compete with cars like the Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla and the upcoming 2013 Honda Civic.
